Ashley had a pretty good day today. They finally took her off of the Magnesium drip that was making her feel pretty nasty. After the effects of the Percocet wore off after noon, she was able to sit up for short periods. We're really hopeful that tomorrow will be the day she gets to go see Maddie in the ICU. The nurse tells us that they should let her hold Maddie tomorrow for a short time, which is a pretty exciting prospect after 3 days of separation.
Maddie's doing well, but they're planning to insert a pic-line this evening to administer nutrients, medicine and other supplements. The pic-line should prevent the nurses from having to repeatedly stick her and replace IVs over the upcoming weeks. It's invasive (her daddy has experienced it), but it's definitely preferable to seeing her get poked over and over. She's lost some weight, which is normal after birth, but at 2lbs, 4oz, she doesn't have a lot of weight to lose. Once she starts gaining weight, they expect her to grow about 3/4 - 1 oz per day. That's about a pound every two weeks, which is slow, but we'll take it.
We're really hoping tomorrow is the day that Ashley gets to see her. We're all really anxious for that meeting.
Thanks to everyone for all your calls, txt messages and emails. We're so fortunate to have such a big network of support.
