Ashley is recovering well and we were able to make several trips to the NICU over the weekend. This afternoon, she was able to hold Maddie again, this time for about an hour. Those opportunities have had quite an effect on our morale.
Reports on Maddie are good. She's beginning to digest more and more milk every day (we're talking milliliters). The more milk she can process, the less she needs to rely on IV nutrition. Though she's had a few spells of apnea in which she "forgets" to breathe, she hasn't had any incidents in the past 24 hours.
They're starting to weigh Maddie every day, which will give us something to measure her progress. After the birth, she quickly lost 4oz (down to 2lbs even). Today, she weighed 2lbs, 2oz, which indicates that she's beginning to put on some weight.
We really want to say thanks to our folks for seeing us through the weekend and this long, long week. There's just nothing like your mother to keep you calm. Both of our moms are first time grandmothers, so we've ushered them into granny-hood with a bang. "Mimi" and "CoCo", thanks for your support. :)
